Welcome to the third and final instalment of our New Year Mama Slay List, a round up of New Year goals, tips, resolutions and learnings from a fabulous selection of mums. This is all about grabbing 2017 by the horns and being the best mum and woman you can be. If you missed the first two parts, then what are you waiting for? Check them out here and here.

My action plan for 2017 is taken from the Nike slogan “Just do it!”
I’ve always been a little bit of an extreme procrastinator and 2016 was definitely the year I stopped having ideas for months and months, stopped thinking about doing something until I actually forgot I was supposed to be doing it and just generally procrastinating my life away and grabbed the Unicorn by the horn and “Just did it”.
I’ve accomplished so much more than I could’ve imagined. It has definitely been one of the years that I’ve been most proud of myself and my achievements so I’ll be “Just doing it” with an extra spring in my step for 2017. Can’t wait to see what the year has in store.
TAMU THOMAS, Co-Founder of MOTHERHOOD RECONSTRUCTED
2014 – midway through 2016 was a real emotional roller coaster. I confused being strong and great with being perfect, setting impossible goals then feeling defeated by my own damn self when they were not achieved. I went round in self destructive circles and chipped away at my self esteem, self love, had negative conversations with myself… you name it (Shirley Caesar voice). Then I learned and owned the power of being gentle with myself from the inside out.
Being gentle has given me a higher sense of love for others and myself and a general day to day sense of gratitude, not just for specific things but the things I usually take for granted like having a creative brain or the ability to do loads in 15 minutes. Being gentle with myself has actually helped me to achieve more, as someone that measures worth with achievement this is crucial. I know that this may not be the best way to measure ‘worthiness’ but I’m human!
It took work, it’s taking work. I’m doing things I once would have dismissed as cheesy such as journaling, listening to affirmations, setting new moon intentions ( I need to be more consistent with this, it’s very potent) and challenging myself to stop analysing / judging everything. I feel more balanced inside and this transfers to my exterior. Therefore my 2017 resolution is to be gentle with myself each day because it permeates through everything and makes me slay!

I’m not really one for making resolutions because I believe we should never save ourselves for place/ time on being better. I honestly believe humans have the ability to ‘smash it’ in some of the most simplest of ways. Whether it be individually or with support; we’re a force to be reckoned with and this is the energy I hope to transcend.
I have decided to reduce the amount I work because I need to ‘better’ my squad. It can be hard to do because there’s always that fear of ‘losing the self’ but my unit needs mama for a while and I’m cool with that. As well as giving a little bit more of me to my family, I hope to give a little more full stop. I’m hoping to ‘hold on to myself’ bychanneling my energies into one of my passions- humanitarian work. I hope to be strong enough to do this in a global capacity one day however for now I will be focusing on local projects supporting local people.
I won’t be inviting 2017 to be the change for the change is already here; the change will start with me. Peace and love, always.
